Why I Love Being a Pastor’s Wife

Dear Sisterfriend,

As we celebrate Pastor’s Wife Appreciation Month, I wanted to take a moment not only to express my gratitude for you but also to share why I love being a pastor’s wife. This journey is filled with challenges, yes, but it is also rich with purpose, joy, and deep blessings. My hope is that through my own experience, you will be reminded of the incredible calling you carry and the ways God is using you in this sacred role.

During the years leading up to me marrying my Pastor Husband, I had served faithfully in my local church.  I also had a “front-row seat” to seeing what ministry life was about because I had lived with a family member who was an Associate Pastor’s wife.  I thought that I was prepared and equipped for this role. However, when I first stepped into this calling, I wasn’t fully aware of the depth of what it meant. But over time, God has shown me that being a pastor’s wife is more than just a title—it’s a divine assignment. He has called us to walk alongside our husbands, to shepherd His people with love, and to be a light in our churches and communities. What an honor it is to serve in this way!

One of the greatest blessings of this role is the relationships we build. ❤️

We have the privilege of walking with people through their highest joys and their deepest sorrows. We get to see lives transformed by God’s grace, marriages restored, and faith ignited in hearts. There is no greater joy than witnessing the power of God at work in the lives of those we serve.

Another gift of this calling is the way it shapes us personally. 🎁

I have grown in my faith in ways I never imagined. Through every challenge, God has drawn me closer to Him, teaching me to rely on His strength rather than my own. I’ve learned to trust Him more deeply, to pray more fervently, and to surrender more fully. The refining process can be hard, but it is also beautiful. God is ALWAYS faithful.

Being a pastor’s wife also means we get a front-row seat to God’s miracles. ❤️

Sometimes, they are big and obvious—like a church growing, a new ministry flourishing, or a prodigal returning home. Other times, they are small and quiet—like a simple word of encouragement that changes someone’s day or a moment when we feel God’s presence during our weariness. Each one is a reminder that God is at work, even when we don’t always see it.

I know there are days, months, and seasons when this role feels overwhelming. There are moments when we may question if we are making a difference or if we are truly equipped for this calling. But let me assure you—God has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. He has called you; He is equipping you, and He will sustain you.

You are not just a pastor’s wife—you are a shepherd, a mentor, an encourager, and a vessel of His love.

So today, I CELEBRATE YOU. 🥳

I celebrate your faithfulness, your sacrifice, and your unwavering love for God’s people. You are making a difference in ways you may never fully see this side of heaven. Keep pressing forward, knowing that God is using you in powerful ways.

With love and appreciation,

susan
