What’s been coming out of your mouth lately? Are you happy with your life? Are things shaping up the way you would like them to? Maybe it’s time for a check-up or a tune-up of your words and your mouth.
I am pleased to introduce you to my friend, Reverend Sheryl Merritt.
The Lord brought her into my life during 2015, and I’m so thankful that He did. She has been a tremendous blessing to me, my husband, and our church. I have learned a lot from her about the power of my words. I know that you will be blessed by her post.

I remember the first time I heard the Lord tell me I had to change the way I was thinking. I thought, “how odd.” “I think like I think. What is He saying to me?” It never occurred to me that I could change my thoughts or that I should.
Then God gave me a picture I will never forget.
The picture was actually like a movie. I saw an old covered wagon like the pioneers used to go out west. A team of horses was pulling the old wagon with people sitting on the buckboard. Mud and water covered the ground that the wagon was traveling on. All of a sudden the wheels of the wagon got bogged down about half way up to each wheel. The wagon got stuck and couldn’t go anywhere. Then the Lord said, “Your mind is like that stuck wagon.” I saw a man grab the reigns of the horses, and he jerked them very hard. As he did, the team of horses began to strain and pull as hard as they could to comply with the man’s wishes. All of a sudden they pulled out of the mud and were on dry ground. They had forcefully pulled out of the wet and muddy rut so they could continue on their journey.
The Lord said to me, ”Take hold of the reigns of your mind and thoughts and just like that team of horses and that old wagon, jerk yourself, on purpose out of that rut. Put my Word in your mind and speak it out of your mouth. As you think on my Word, you will begin to change how you think to line up with Me.”
I began to do this, and it changed my world for the better. You can too, and your world will be changed for the better.
God began to teach me that what I say comes to pass! Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” It is the invisible substance from which your physical world was and is created. God used faith- substance and word-energy to create the universe. He spoke and the vibration (sound) of His words released the substance that became the stars and the planets!
Words are the carrier of substance.
They carry the substance to wherever it is directed. If you direct your faith toward the healing of your body, then your words carry healing energy to the cellular level of your body. On the vibrations of your words, faith substance is carried to your body where it becomes healing substance.
Just as God created the universe by faith-substance and word-energy, you create your own universe by your faith and your words. If you don’t like what you have created, you can change it!
The truth in the spirit realm says that we affect everything around us by just how we see it or what we believe. Think about that!! Jesus said to the centurion in Matthew 8, “as you have believed, so be it done unto thee.” It’s a good thing that the centurion believed because his servant was healed! OUR perceptions return to us exactly as we perceive!
All things are interconnected. God is not up in Heaven sitting on His throne sowing seeds and making choices for us that may be bad or good. We are sowing our own seeds and making our own choices for good or evil without even understanding what we are doing.
We make the choice.
What you do and believe affects everyone around you. You actually create your own reality. Your perception of life becomes your life. Wow! That’s amazing. We have more to do with how our lives turn out than we ever thought. It’s not just fate.
That’s why it is so important to change your perceptions, beliefs, and expectations so that they agree with the abundant life that has been provided for you.
Are you perceiving and believing in the blessings or curses?
What you believe in your heart is the controlling force of your life. You are either controlled by faith or fear! It’s fairly easy to identify negative, limiting thoughts and beliefs:
- They bring fear and make you feel bad
- They manifest in your life as hopelessness and expectations of sickness, poverty, failure and defeat
- They make you feel stuck
You can reprogram your beliefs by speaking energizing, life-giving words of power. Speak only what agrees with who Christ said you are, and you can eliminate the old belief system that has dominated you!
Remember…what is seen is created from what is unseen. Your outward circumstances are a reflection of your beliefs. Before you can change circumstances, your must change yourself with the help of the Holy Spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can help us make that kind of lasting change. To speak to the mountain and have it removed, you must believe those things you say will come to pass. Hearing yourself speak (confess, speak out loud) what God has said about you, puts faith in your heart and changes your perceptions and interactions with the world around you.
Confess Who You Are In Christ
Here are some scriptures to help you get started:
I am strong in the Lord and the power of His might. I draw my strength from Him, that strength which His boundless might provides. (Ephesians 6:10)
I am strengthened with all might according to His glorious power. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Colossians 1:11, Philippians 4:13)
The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me and quickens my mortal body. (Romans 8:11)
The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2)
Wisdom in my heart is like water in a deep well, I am a person of understanding, and I draw it out. (Proverbs 20:5)
I have perfect knowledge of every circumstance and situation in life for the Spirit of Truth dwells in me. (John 16:13)
I am delivered from the power of darkness. I know the truth and the truth has set me free. (John 8:32)

The Holy Spirit teaches me all things and brings all things to my memory. I know and remember who I am. I now use my words and my faith to manifest God’s highest and best for me. (John 14:6)
