I hope that you’ve had a good week and relaxing summer. Maybe not. Life seems very hectic for most people that I know. There doesn’t seem to be any “down” time. We cram every inch of our lives with work, projects, activities, and volunteer service. It’s a rat race that never ends for many people. Everywhere I look I see people who are exhausted and need some refueling.
I’ve been on a journey the past few years trying to find a better balance in my life that promotes wellness in spirit, soul, and body. Too many years of trying to keep up with the rat race had left me feeling depleted and worn down. It’s a constant challenge to stay focused on what God wants me to do and not what I or others think I should do. It is definitely a journey when we are seeking wholeness and wellness, and it is one worth taking. It’s a fight worth fighting. It’s easy to slip back into old patterns, and I have to be continually reminded and encouraged to strive for life balance.
God has placed some good resources in my path to help me try to achieve a better balance in life. The most recent book that I’ve been reading is called Simplicity: Ten Practices to Unclutter Your Soul by Pastor Bill Hybels.
As the founder and Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, one of the largest churches in America, Pastor Hybels understands what it’s like to be depleted from too much work and not enough time to nurture the spirit, soul, and body.
In this book, Pastor Hybels shares about his own wake-up call that forced him to examine his schedule, take a breath, and realign his priorities. This book unpacks simple tools that will help you live a simplified, focused, and rewarding life.
The Chapters include:
1 – From Exhausted to Energized
2 – From Overscheduled to Organized
3 – From Overwhelmed to In Control
4 – From Restless to Fulfilled
5 – From Wounded to Whole
6 – From Anxious to Peaceful
7 – From Isolated to Connected
8 – From Drifting to Focused
9 – From Stuck to Moving On
10 – From Meaningless to Satisfied
There are practical Action Steps at the end of each chapter, and it’s helpful to journal your thoughts as you progress through the book.
When you purchase the book you get free access for 90 days to the Bible Study videos that can be used for your personal devotion time or in a small group study. There is also a group study book that can be purchased.
Would you join me in this journey to live a simpler life? Sometimes less is more. Less life “clutter” and more time focusing on what matters the most produces abundance and not drought.
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!
